Lee loves Bear Naked Granola. We’ve tried almost every other cheaper brand, but he can’t turn away from Bear Naked for breakfast, and those 12oz bags go very fast at $4.49 to 4.99 at Safeway and other brick & mortar stores. I checked Amazon. For six 12oz bags, Amazon charges 22.00 or 3.67 per bag, an 18% – 26% savings.
My brother Mark loves Sapporo Ichiban ramen – chicken flavor. He will eat four packages every three days on average, so buying in bulk is a great idea for us. Our local Asian foods store, Uwajimaya, and Safeway sell the ramen for about 75-99 cents per package. Amazon sold us a 24-pack box for $14.00 or 58 cents per package. Excellent.
Noticed I used the word “loves” in both cases? We certainly don’t buy a lot from Amazon, but for those few things that I know don’t go on sale very often and we consistently need, Amazon seems to be a great choice for us with free shipping on orders over $25. I also hear Amazon may be adding perishables soon.
Here’s why buying in bulk is a good idea if you know you will consume it. The comments on this article debate the actual return percentage, but everyone seems to be in agreement that it’s a good idea.
